Depositor Comments

pBS598 carries the EGFPcre fusion gene under the control of the strong elongation factor EF1alpha promoter. This promoter expresses at high levels in most cell types, including embryonic stem (ES) cells. However its use in transgenic mice is not recommended: the promoter is often silenced in a transgene setting. The GFP moiety of the fusion gene carries the S65T mutation for enhanced fluorescence and is codon-optimised for higher level expression.

Note: pBS513 (EF1alpha-cre) is very similar to pBS598 but carries the wt cre gene and thus serves as the non-fluorescent counterpart of pBS598.
